Both Oak Grove LEGO Teams had a very nice, long day on 12/10/17 LEGO at the Regional Championship tournament held in Corvallis. There were 14 teams competing from throughout the mid-Willamette Valley and Eugene area.
The boys’ team finished the day with the second highest robot performance score on the table. This was fantastic! The girls’ team finished with the third highest performance score on the table, respectively.
The girls’ team ended the day with top tournament scores in team work (CORE Values), research project, and robot programming. As a result, they received one of two tournament Champions Awards and will now advance on to the Oregon state robotics championships tournament held in Hillsboro.
Overall, it was a great day for both teams. They were able to spend time learning and sharing ideas with other teams, cheering-on other teams; the girls team was asked to come up on stage during the awards ceremony and play their ukuleles and sing “taco” songs for the audience. A great big thank you goes out to Mrs. Gossett for helping with the ukuleles.
The girls’ team was recently contacted by the international FIRST LEGO Robotics organization, informing them that they have been selected as one of 20 teams, world-wide, to be honored for CORE Values (team work) and research projects; this year, there were approximately 35,000 FIRST LEGO Robotics teams in consideration.
Congratulations to all! Thanks you to the Coaches Matt Gelhaus & Raylene Babbit for the boys’ team, (Team T.B.D.), and Mike Williams, Raylene Babbitt, and Mr. Gullickson for the girls’ team (The Fin-tastic Fish.).
